So the City2Surf times were published in the SMH today, and not being a person who is good with details when it comes to remembering numbers, I spent ages trying to look for my name between 80:00 and 100:00. The only one that resembled my name was one "LUK M" at 87:22. After consulting my identification card, I realised that I must have made a mistake filling in the application. My only time at running C2S and I'll be forever known as M Luk.

Almost didn't want to wake up and go for my first City2Surf. Had to be up at 7am and on a Sunday morning. Good thing I was staying over at Lin's/Stevie's. It would've sucked having to wake up earlier to make my way in from home. But it was a beautiful day and Sydney is so lucky to have nice weather during outdoor events (except during events at the domain!) And it was amazing to see the sea of heads and the shimmering reflections of the sunlight from their sunnies. As people were getting ready for the starting gun to bang, you can see jumpers flying in all directions.
The red group A runners looked so serious and the yellow Back of the Pack seemed to be really enjoying the atmosphere. Sarah, Machiko and I were in the blue group and I managed to lose both of them before even getting into the tunnel. On a normal day, the route would make a nice long stroll along that part of the coast. But today was all about making it to Bondi alive. Don't even know if I've ever done a 14k run before this. I knew the uphill part will be quite draining, but it wasn't till after the run that I found out that part of the course is known as Heartbreak Hill. And although they had regular distance markers, I couldn't see one after the 12k mark. Not knowing a course also means not being able to pace properly. Coming into Bondi, I thought the Sun Herald banner was the finishing line and rushed for it only to find out that there was a bend after that and one last stretch that followed. I made it under 90 minutes and was quite satisfied that I wasn't heaving.
Stevie came to meet me at Bondi and we headed off teo Bondi Junction to have lunch at the new Westfield complex. We've both heard from different people that the food court had a great view of the city. And it was impressive. A Westfield foodcourt that looks out towards the Harbour Bridge and Centrepoint Tower. I so want to live in the Eastern Suburbs.
Nighttime program was dinner and live music at the Vanguard in Newtown. Got to meet few more of Stevie's friends and enjoy the music of Sarah Blasko and Speedstar.

Breakfast with Stevie at Circular Quay looking out to the Harbour Bridge. We then strolled towards the Opera House, (saw Jimmie Durham's Still life with Stone and Car, 2004), then headed backed towards the MCA. There was a guided tour just a little after we got there, so we followed the guide and took in the displays for the Biennale of Sydney. It always makes me feel there's just so much to know but I like getting aquainted with things I haven't been exposed to even though I'm still baffled by what is considered art.
The decision to watch the Chronicles of Riddick wasn't the best one but we didn't have much to choose from. Don't know how they convinced Judi Dench to be in the movie. And the sound track was horrible, it was like the work of a high school student who didn't have enough time or access to equipment.
A quick bite after the movie and we were back at Lin's place to rest for a while. Had dinner at Sushi Fusion, but Tatsu and Charmaine had to go early we only

So had my first week back at uni and already not looking forward to the assignments. I'm telling myself now that I'll keep up with the readings and look up more references for the papers. Yeah, right! It's gonna be even tougher for the Literacy class as there are only about 15 students and that's never good for curved grading. Tonight's class was not very interesting tho the lecturer seems to be awfully extra nice. Each student had to give a self-intro. Felt like I was back in Japan again. The trip home was crap. The bus came almost 20 minutes late and by the time I got home (after walking close to an hour from Chatswood Station), it was after 9p. Can't this state ever get the public transport right?!
